Metabolic syndrome is an umbrella term used to describe lifestyle diseases that include insulin resistance, type II diabetes, high blood pressure, raised cholesterol and obesity.
Metabolic disorders such as insulin resistance (pre-diabetes) and type II diabetes are on the rise in our populations. This has very much been driven by a Western style diet with too many refined carbohydrates and sugars, the wrong types of fats and sedentary lifestyles.
BEST DIET FOR METABOLIC SYNDROME
The good news is that these conditions can be reversed via a targeted nutrition and lifestyle program. There are many factors in a person’s diet and lifestyle that can drive metabolic syndrome such as unhealthy food choices, excess alcohol, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, and a lack of exercise. There is some very clear research pinpointing specific diet and lifestyle interventions to reverse the metabolic dysfunction that leads to these debilitating disorders. At Physical Nutrition we use many different methods such a low carb diets, low calorie diets, the Mediterranean diet, intermittent fasting etc. depending on a person’s capabilities and needs. We would work with a client over several months until blood tests for cholesterol, insulin and glucose normalise, blood pressure optimises and weight drops to within normal range. Our plan is to get you off all of your meds (with your doctor’s help) and leading a long, happy and healthy life.
